KMOMA Workshop


The workshop was held in collaboration with Kolkata Musuem of Modern Arts (KMoMA), at Taj Gateway, Kolkata

to arrive at the working plans and ground-based actions plans of the 4 creative economy projects under SandHI.
The Kolkata Museum of Modern Art (KMOMA) hosted, in association with the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), supported by the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI Bengal) and its knowledge partner IIT Kharagpur, an International Symposium, Sound Square : A New Age Urban Space at Gateway Hotel on 13th & 14th February 2014 to explore ways of rejuvenating Kolkata.

The Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee laid the Foundation Stone of the Kolkata Museum of Modern Art (KMOMA) at New Town, Rajarhat, on November 14, 2013 in the presence of a select gathering : representatives of the State Government and the Civic Authority, Industrialists, Artists, Members of the Theatre and Film Fraternity, Musicians, Art Lovers and other enlightened citizens of Kolkata.


2012
Since the institutional philosophy of KMOMA promotes a meaningful engagement with the community, it launched in 2012, with the Indian Chamber of Commerce, a project in partnership with city schools. This ongoing project to be done in phases is called “Museum Beyond The Walls” and seeks to spread public art awareness. The first phase involved…….city schools in graffiti workshops in different localities conducted by well-known artists. Children from both upscale private institutions and Corporation schools were chosen for this scheme of fun learning.

The ceremonial inauguration of KMOMA took place on 15 July, 2011, at theTown Hall, Kolkata, where Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was the chief guest.


20 & 21 December, 2010
KMOMA and Netaji Research Bureau (NRB) jointly organized a two-day conference on A Different Universalism: the Global Vision of Rabindranath Tagore and his Contemporaries on 20 and 21 December, 2010, at Netaji Bhawan, Kolkata.

The proposal to have a world-class museum named the Kolkata Museum of Modern Art (KMOMA) was mooted at a high-profile meeting on 27 August, 2006, at the Oberoi Grand. It was chaired by then Chief Minister of West Bengal, Buddhadeb Bhattacharya, who became the chief patron of KMOMA. The programme was followed by a mini art auction.

KMOMA organized a workshop on Architectural Design Development on 4 August, 2009, which was attended by many distinguished intellectuals who contributed valuable inputs to enrich KMOMA’s architectural design.

An international symposium on Museums of the Future was held on March 23, 2009, at the Taj Bengal, Klokata, by KMOMA in collaboration with the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FICCI).

KMOMA participated in the 3rd edition of India Art Summit, New Delhi, in January, 2011
April, 2007
On 29 April, 2007, KMOMA hosted a preview in Mumbai of the art works that would be auctioned by Sotheby’s in New York to raise funds for the museum later that year. This was the first time that over 70 artists, various galleries, private individuals, and an international auction house came together to support a national art museum of international facilities in India. Works by Tyeb Mehta, Jehangir Sabavala, Sakti Burman, Jogen Chowdhury , Somnath Hore, Akbar Padamsee, Arpita Singh , Rameshwar Broota, Chintan Upadhyay, Baiju Parthan , and Dayanita Singh were on view.
